My given name is Kyle Northrup, but I prefer people call me Caelan or Kay. This portfolio represents a strong portion of the work I've done over the years, focused on projects I am most proud of and which best represent my current level of production and quality.
My primary focus is on my work in media writing and game design. I have been writing plays and short stories for decades, and running tabletop roleplaying games for almost 20 years. These passions have now mixed, and I am writing roleplaying game modules and narratives for video games. During the pandemic, I took the opportunity to join Beyond Skyrim, a large mod project for the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. In the short time years I have been working with them, I have become Writing Director of a major project, been involved in organizing a number of Creation Mod Con events, and have grown to be well-known in the community.
My work on tabletop games has also utilized my visual design skills. I began working with Adobe Photoshop and other design software while I worked towards my undergraduate degree. A few years ago, I paired this with my tabletop knowledge and began to sell some of my designs for easy to use handouts and GM tools. This has led to my work on Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition, which has been very successful and gained me a small amount of notoriety within that community as well.
I've worked in professional theatre since graduating from Towson University in 2014. Since then, I have worked on major productions with large theatres, mostly as a set carpenter or lighting designer. I have even worked as a Technical Director for a small theatre producing drag shows and LGBT productions. Along the way, I have also taken on some film work, mostly as an audio technician, grip, or gaffer.
And lastly, I began making vegan signal whips and floggers around 2015, which I sell at a number of events throughout the Baltimore area. My designs have become increasingly unique in their form and function, leading me to seek patents for several of them. Some of my whips have also been used as props in local theatrical productions.
I am open to a wide variety of work opportunities. I am confident in my abilities working alone or within a team, and always endeavor to make every piece a showstopper!
